Search in Outlook 2007 not working on Vista

this was a known issue -if you had installed an Office 2003 product on top of Office 2007. the work around was quite easy: simply repair Office 2007 to reset the registry keys:

1.Exit all 2007 Office programs.

2. Click Start, type appwiz.cpl in the Start Search box, and then click appwiz.cpl in the Programs list.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, or click Continue.

3. In the Uninstall or change a program list, click Microsoft Office Version 2007, and then click Change.

4. In the Microsoft Office Version 2007 dialog box, click Repair, and then click Continue.

TabletPC pen advances slides in Powerpoint 2007

Writing on slides in PPT 2007, which is enhanced from PPT 2003 as one now can write on the presenter view window, requires that "advance slide" using mouse click is set to off. It seem to be ON by default, which means that slides advance when you try to write. Unselecting the box takes care of this, but I have not found a default setting to "off".

TiVo Series1 connect problem

With a failed modem it is near impossible to reconnect your "old" TIVO1. I needed to reconnect to set the clock, which drifts considerably. I tried all the postings, including using my computer as a modem through a telnet-like conenction. The V3 software simply did not know what to do, although I could connect that way (requiring nulmodem cable). I wanted to try an external modem, but was unabale to locate the right Hayes-compatible type (amazing how fast things change). In the end, I simply tried and tried with the built-in modem, until, miraculously, the modem did connect and the TiVo came out of the inititalization loop. It reset the clock and now I won't touch it for a long time. Better to adjust the manlual taping (the reason I keep it) a few minutes later, as you will not see the guide anyhow.
If you have another TiVo (like series2) then change the account number on the TiVo site, which will give updates as well (one it connects).

FolderShare startup problem

FolderShare, a great free utility from Microsoft, gave problems when loading on my laptop. Turns out that Windows firewall is the culprit. The easiest solution is resetting the firewall (on sectury window), but this looses all permissions. It does resolve the issue!
